Farmers Markets

Following a year's research, and agreement from the Town Council for a year's trial, Aylsham held its first Farmers' Market on 2 March 2002.

It was a huge success, was well supported by producers, the public and the shop traders who realised that it brought people into the town, and after that trial, became an established event in Aylsham's calendar and part of community life.

Almost all the original producers who joined in 2002 are still with the Farmers' Market.  In 2004, the market received formal FARMA accreditation - the "standard" that ensures the market operates according to the very strict rules.  Happily, the market was re-accredited in 2006 and 2008 and will next be re-assessed in 2010.  The market has been so successful and the waiting list of producers such that the Town Council decided to set up a 2nd Farmers' Market, this time on the 3rd Saturday each month.

Aylsham won the Eastern Daily Press Food Award for the Best Farmers' Market in 2008.
