Farmers Markets
Following a year's research, and agreement from the Town Council for a year's trial, Aylsham held its first Farmers' Market on 2 March 2002.
It was a huge success, was well supported by producers, the public and the shop traders who realised that it brought people into the town, and after that trial, became an established event in Aylsham's calendar and part of community life.
Almost all the original producers who joined in 2002 are still with the Farmers' Market. In 2004, the market received formal FARMA accreditation - the "standard" that ensures the market operates according to the very strict rules. Happily, the market passed its re-accreditation in 2006, and will be assessed again later this year.
The market has been so successful and the waiting list of producers such that the Town Council decided to set up a 2nd Farmers' Market, this time on the 3rd Saturday each month.
Click on the links to see the producers for each market. We plan to feature a different producer each month.
Aylsham is the Best Farmers' Market 2008!! Liz Jones, Town Council Chairman, collected the award at the EDP Food Awards ceremony in September. The other finalists were Fakenham and Beccles.
